I use to think of a diet as eating in a certain way until I reached a certain weight. It didn't bother me to much because in my mind a day was coming when I could once again have anything I wanted.
As we all know that's a lovely fairy tale and in reality it's just not true. Those pounds do come back and they bring buddies unless you eat in a way to maintain your goal weight.
For me Diet is the food I choose to eat. I really think instead of diet I think meal plan.
AT this time my meal plan is set up to be condusive to weight loss. There will come a time when I reach my goal (either the one I would really like to be at or one that is more realistic.*** ) At that point my meal plan will will change to maintaining rather than loosing. That is my mind set and it works.
***My goal of 140 may turn out to be unrealistic. A few years ago my dietician told me that a higher number may be as far as I will be able to go. It's really difficult to shed any pounds anymore unless I have a major illness and those pounds do come back, and yes their new buddies do come along with them. So I'm beginning to see that she may be right about that. We'll see.
As for frustration and deprivation. If you never allow yourself to have a food you really want then your going to feel those feelings. They are big killers of any meal plan/or/program your on. So my advice is if you really really want something have it. Just don't make it an everyday thing. For instance if I really really want a candy bar or a cone of cream from the local fast food place etc then I will have it. If I deny myself I know that I'm going to eat everything in sight trying to satisfy myself and still go to bed feeling unfulfilled. Way more cals, carb choices, and fats then if I'd simply gone out and bought the desired food and had it and then moved on and back to my meal plan.
The main thing is don't do this everyday and make sure it's something you really really have to have. |
