What is more important to you: controlling your blood sugar levels or losing weight?

They are both important to me.

I use to be really good at doing what I needed to do in order to do both.
Then a lot of events occured that I had to deal with. Exercise and following my food plan went by the wayside. This past fall I decided to just focus on my glucose and in Jan begin focusing on weight loss. Well focus on glucose only led to weight gain to the tune of about 20 lbs give or take 5.

With the help of dieticians, and a group I am involved with I'm finding my way back to being on track.
I certainly need to lose weight since I weigh 238 lbs. I certainly want to keep my glucose at good/excellent levels.
I also want a good A1C. (My last A1C was 5.1)

Hopefully one day I'll only have to focus on the glucose because I'll be at my goal weight. But until then gotta worry about them both.

You're right that it's difficult to accomplish all of our goals at the same time. But wouldn't a meal plan designed to promote weight loss also accomplish better blood sugar control?

My meal plan has always been set up to accomplish both.
I just got off track.

I'm back on it. Before and after supper are the times I'm most likely to mess up

At this time my meal plan is:
Breakfast:
2 carb choices, 1 protein, and a fat

Lunch:
4 carb choices, 1 fat, 2 proteins

Afternoon snack:
2 carb choices and a protein

Supper:
3 carb choices, 1 fat, and 2 proteins.

If I need a snack mid morning and after supper I can do that as long as I work it into my calories.

I get 1500 cals total
My biggest problem is staying w/i my protein limits and the pre and after supper situation

Thanks for sharing your meal plan. It's so easy to get off track, but it looks like you're doing great right now.
