Topic: Indulging our cravings-
tinap1, Jul 10 2008 2:27 pm91 words

Cravings! We all get them. How we handle them is what determines if we are successful in maintaining our diet plan goals. Well, good news. Experts say its better to indulge-- a little-- rather than deprive yourself altogether. The thinking is that if you cut something completely out of your diet, you're more likely to over indulge when you do encounter it.

How do you handle cravings? What foods do you tend to crave most?

Do you have advice to share about how to work favorite cravings into a diabetes lifestyle?

I crave potato chips in the worst way! So, if I eat them, I not only get the carbs, but the salt as well. Not a good idea. I have found that I just can't eat a little of the kinds I like - I will eat the whole bag every time. So, what I do now is I only buy my non-favorite kind. For instance, I can eat a few pretzels and feel satisfied with no feeling of wanting to eat the whole bag of them. As a result, I will only allow pretzels or chips that I'm not overly thrilled with in the house. That way, I get a little taste, but I don't go overboard. I also only buy them occasionally, because I don't want to indulge too often!
