I'm sure we've all heard about the connection between having a chronic illness such as diabetes and depression. Overcoming the blues is a major part of being successful in managing diabetes.

I try to talk it over with a good friend or family member when I'm feeling down about my diabetes. I find that just that act of sharing and putting my feelings into words helps me to overcome the depression. Also, many times, those that you confide in can help you to see things in a more positive light.

This is a really important topic, and I think the most important thing we can remember is that many people with diabetes DO have depression. We shouldn't feel bad about it, or that somehow there's something wrong with us for having these types of feelings. People with diabetes should be encouraged to talk openly about their feelings, and health care providers need to know where to refer people for additional guidance. Thanks for bringing this up!
