Topic: lettuce sandwiches-

Has anyone tried making a sandwich with lettuce leaves instead of bread? I'm trying to cut back on carbohydrates, and a friend suggested this.

I have a friend who likes using lettuce as bread.
She did this long before anyone else ever did.
She really likes using lettuce as bread.

I did try it but found it wasn't something I wanted to do.
Several years ago some company packaged some type of lettuce as a subtitute for bread.
I tried using lettuce as bread but didn't find that type of lettuce appealing.
Some of the veins running through the lettuce were really thick and didn't like the texture of it.
So I decided it wasn't for me.

If I try it again I'll just buy a head of lettuce and use thiner leaves.

Carbs are a catch 22.
Eat to many and up your blood sugar goes. To many can affect your weight too.
Eat to few and you won't have enough energy for your body to work right.
And again that blood sugar will be unhappy and you might have a low.
It's all a balancing act.

If you decide to replace bread with lettuce let me know how it worked for you.

I tried a lettuce-instead-of-bread sandwich over the weekend, and it worked fine. I used leaf lettuce, but it didn't have large veins in it. I layered a leaf of lettuce, sliced ham, and a slice of low-fat cheddar cheese; then topped it off with another lettuce leaf. It's a little unwieldy, but it tasted great.

If you thought of them as lettuce rollups rather than bread replacements, you might be happier. Comparing lettuce to bread seems like a losing battle. But, having a salad you can hold in your hand might seem like a novelty.

I'm easily fooled!!

I love this idea: a salad you can hold in your hand! You're so right that changing the wording around makes this lunch seem like a great idea. thanks!
