Can simply walking more throughout the day during my usual activities help me lose weight? Or do I have to join a gym to see weight loss? |
|
The exercise component of weight loss doesn't depend on joining a gym.
Yes, I do belong to a gym but for many years I didn't. During those years I walked outside, and used a mini tramp inside. Later on I used a treadmill inside. Walking outside was my main form of exercise. Now I'd probably use a video or DVD if I didn't belong to a gym and coundn't go outside.
The where of exercise isn't as important as doing it on a consistant basis. At a level that your body sees as extra movement. |

It's interesting that your exercise has changed over time, yet you continue to be active in some way. I think that being flexible and making some type of activity a goal, is really key. |

Thanks.
I agree flexibility is the key. It's oh so hard for me to get use to the idea of changing things and adjusting to circumstances when life throws a curveball at me. Such as the wreck, then surgery, and then recooperation. That took a year.
I had a test Friday. The doc thinks it's nothing but he's sending it off anyway. I believe he's right and it's nothing
but
If he's wrong I'll have a new curveball to deal with. When things are going bad I sometimes just curl up and do only work and the recliner. Got any ideas on how to cope with bad information and keep on going? |

I've got my fingers crossed for you that the information is going to be good.
Talking with friends and family helps me get through bad times. It also helps for me to think about all the positives I have going for me.

Lynn, last week I had a colonoscopy. I was fully expecting to hear what I always hear which adds up to nothing. Well it didn't turn out to be that way.
He found polyps and sent them off. The reports were good. All benign That makes me happy. One of the polyps was a different type than the others. It runs in families and can turn into cancer. This one wasn't at the cancer stage so I'm ok Now it's gone and won't be able to become cancer. That makes me happy
Since it runs in families I have to contact all blood relatives which includes cousins and let them know. Everyone over 40 will have to be tested. Mother's side is easy but my Fathers side isn't because I haven't had contact with them since childhood and really wouldn't know where to begin. I just hope if it's from the Sansom side of my family one of them has already been tested and it's been found in one of them. I hope all is well with them. I guess this summer i will try to find out how to contact that side from my mother.
Another happy bit of news is that I will have this happy experience every 3 years instead of 5. GRRRRRRRR I'm so grateful that I had the test early because I wasn't due to have it again until 2010. Had I waited that long the reports might not have been so good. I am very fortunate that a drop in blood points made my Nurse Practioner insist that I have an early colonoscopy.
Your right talking with people in tough times always helps. But sometimes when I have a lot emotion going on I just want to curl up and become a recliner potato. Thank you for your supportive words in your post. |

One of the positive aspects of not being adopted. I am from North Carolina originally and was adopted at birth. Laws in NC don't allow for parent search. I really didn't want to know until just recently when all of my medical problems started to pop up.
I'm Type 2 from Agent Orange and getting to the point where oral meds are not doing what they are supposed to do. Now I have a real reason to get active..

Sam, I'm sure it's tough not know your biological family or at least their family history. I hope your state changes it's policies. I think you have a right to know those things.
ggbal, I admire you. At 74 and with challenges you still find a way to exercise. You go girl. |
