Topic: Do you have a slow metabolism?-
LynnGr, Sep 8 2008 6:40 pm54 words

According to a 2007 consumer survey by the Calorie Control Council, 66% of people surveyed felt they need to lose weight because their metabolism is slowing down. Do you think that your metabolism plays a large role in your weight, or are other factors such as food choices, activity patterns, and snacking more important?

I think both play a part. I've had a thyroid deficiency since my teens. However, taking the medication has never resulted in a stunning weight loss. I still have to watch my diet and get enough exercise. The only thing it does for me is it allows me not to have to struggle twice as hard to lose the weight.

You bring up a good point. I think many people believe that an underactive thyroid is to blame for their inability to lose weight, but just taking thyroid medication doesn't cause weight loss on its own. I think it evens the playing table, so that activity and healthy food choices can do their job.
