Hi Debbie. A new diagnosis of diabetes is never easy to hear, but it sounds like you've got a good team working with you to help you figure out how to best control your blood sugar levels. While often people are overweight, inactive, and eat poorly when they're diagnosed, it doesn't happen that way for everyone.
Right now it's important to ask lots of questions and be patient as your medical team helps you sort out what is going to work best to control your blood sugar levels. The more information you have, the better you'll feel. Also take a look at our Diabetes 101 section on this website for helpful information.
The one other area that is important is support. Support from your family and friends is crucial as you all learn about diabetes. Also look into a local support group (your diabetes educator should be able to give you the necessary information) and of course keep using this online forum. You're not alone and we're all here to listen and help. |
