Topic: Warm-Ups-
ShelleyN, Aug 11 2008 2:32 pm58 words

Before beginning your workout for the day, it is important to warm-up your body or injury could result. Slowly stretching muscles before using them heavily is a good strategy to have.

Do you warm-up before exercising?

What kinds of things do you do to warm-up?

Do you have one warm-up routine, or do you vary them for variety?

I like to use the stationary bike at the gym for a warm-up before I start lifting weights. 10 minutes on the bike gets followed by 5 minutes of stretching helps get me ready for the weights.

I hadn't thought about using the stationary bike as a warm-up. I'll have to give it a try. I have done stretching and simple callisthenic type exercises like touching my toes a few times to get my muscles ready.

Usually a 5-10 minute warm-up of any kind, where you get your large muscles moving and heart rate moving up, is recommended. Sometimes I just do the activity for my workout, but slower. For example, I may walk for 5 minutes before I start running.
