Topic: Helping someone to live healthier-
tinap1, Aug 4 2008 10:15 am111 words

Sometimes it's hard when you know someone who is putting their health at risk by being overweight, especially if they have been diagnosed with diabetes or another condition. If it is a family member, it can be very frustrating and emotionally challenging to try to get them to adapt a new lifestyle.

Do you have a friend or family member you know who either has diabetes or is at risk and is overweight? If so, did you approach them about it?

Do you have any tips to share for those who may be struggling with helping a family member or friend adapt a healthier lifestyle for the sake of their health?

I try to model a healthy lifestyle, but avoid giving recommendations to my friends who are overweight. I encourage them to take a walk with me, or when we go out for lunch I suggest a place that has a variety of healthy options. I find the subtle approach takes the pressure off both of us.
