Topic: "Out of the box" exercise routines-

There are so many standard, age-old exercise routines and regimens out there for weight loss. My problem is finding ways to be challenged and enjoy the workout. Have you tried any "out of the box" exercise routines that you've made up yourself and have had success with? What other types of exercises do you do that are outside of the "norm?"

I purchased a pair of walking poles last year and started using them periodically when I go for a walk. It adds in an upper body workout, and somehow makes the walking more fun!

I'm 55 y/o obiese male w/osteoarthritis in both knees and my lower back. This rules out Walking, jogging or bike riding so I had to find some other way. Water Aroabics classes at the local Acquatic Center helped me. I actually came out of the pool SWEATING. I have no way to calcuate the calories burned or measure of benefit but I think it helps and that is what really matters. You might want to try this even if you don't have all my problems.

Water aerobics are a great idea! I have some physical problems myself and I know that water reduces the strain on my lower body. It also creates resistance and can be a very good workout. Terrific suggestion! Of course, anyone with physical problems (or, anyone, actually) should consult their doctor before starting any kind of exercise, just to be sure it's okay for them.

Water aerobics and swimming are great suggestions! I love anything in the water. Now that it's summertime, we can probably get out and do a pool routine pretty cost-effectively as well. Any other low-impact suggestions?
