Topic: Which oils to use when?-
tinap1, Jul 24 2008 9:07 am79 words

There's recently been a new emphasis on the importance of people with diabetes consuming good fats and avoiding the bad ones. This includes the oils you use to cook your food, and which to use for different cooking methods. For example, some oils are good for salad dressings, while others are best for high heat cooking.

Which oil(s) do you use in your diet?

Which oil(s) do you use for salads? Which oil(s) do you use to cook with?

My favorite oil is olive oil, both for the taste and also for the monounsaturated fats. I didn't think you should sautee with it, until I went to Sicily and the chefs there ONLY use olive oil! Since I don't fry or deep-fry anything, olive oil is what I use for everything. OK, I'll admit I don't use it when I bake a cake or cupcakes, but that happens really seldom - for desserts I use canola oil.
