Topic: Foodborne illness-
LynnGr, Jul 23 2008 1:40 pm63 words

It seems like we often hear about some type of foodborne illness linked to fruit or vegetables. Since eating more fruit and vegetables is often a mainstay of a weight loss program, does the fear of foodborne illness stop you from eating these usually healthy foods? What steps do you take to make sure that you're getting healthy foods without making yourself sick?

When people are becoming ill from a certain food I leave that food alone until it's ok again.
Afterall it's better to leave it be for the short term and remain healthy than to eat it anyway and get sick or die from it.
Last summer it was tomatos. Recently it was peanut butter and perhaps peanuts.
Several years ago spinach was the source of illness.

There seem to be plenty of veggies/fruits that are still safe to eat when there is a foodborne illness.

In 06 I contracted a waterborne illness-Giardia.
It was awful and I was very very sick for several months.
Can you say Depends? Well I certainly used them during that time.

I've never had Giardia, but I know people who have. It's awful!

I make sure I wash all of my produce, even if it's organic.
