Topic: "Going green" with diabetes diet-
tinap1, Jun 16 2008 9:23 am86 words

There's a lot of talk about "going green" these days. This can include encompassing a "green" diet and purchasing food from local farmers as well as going vegetarian or vegan (which means no animal products, including dairy and honey). In fact, it has been noted that vegetarian and vegan diets can have a positive impact on blood glucose management.

Do you eat "green?" If so, what benefits have you seen to your health?

Are you a vegetarian or vegan? Was it hard to implement that lifestyle?

It's funny you should ask these questions, because farmers' markets just started up again for the season in my area, and I go at least once each week. I like to talk with the people who make the food, and find that they always have the freshest produce. The other day at a potluck dinner someone asked me if I was vegetarian (I brought a roasted pepper salad). I'm not, although I love a variety of vegetarian foods. I call myself "flexitarian" because I enjoy a wide range of foods.

Can we be 'green' and still eat meat?
